🎯 Course Objectives (COB)

  1. Understand characteristics of various motors and loads, and select appropriate drives.

  2. Study rectifier-fed drive systems for real-time applications.

  3. Learn AC–DC and DC–DC fed electric drive systems.

  4. Familiarize with induction motor fed drive systems.

  5. Understand synchronous motor and special machine-based drives.


📚 Course Modules

  • Module I: Introduction to Electric Drives, motor characteristics, torque-speed relations, motor selection.

  • Module II: Converter-fed DC drives (single/three-phase, dual converters, motoring & braking, closed loop).

  • Module III: Chopper-fed DC drives (types, four-quadrant operation, closed loop control, transfer function).

  • Module IV: Induction motor drives (starting, braking, VSI/CSI fed drives, rotor resistance control, slip power recovery).

  • Module V: Synchronous motor & special machine drives (PMSM, BLDC, SRM, case studies, FOC algorithms).
